Turning Writer's Block Into a Song

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” Thomas Edison. Stuck in a discouraging bout of writer’s block earlier this year, I decided to write a song about it.

Stumbling ‘round a room full of mirrors
In a dizzy spiral’s where I disappeared
Looking for answers, but all I could see 
Ten-thousand failures staring back at me

That’s when I took that step into the mirror 
Bonked my head…

And through the shards of broken glass
An open field of greener grass
Flowers in my noggin bloomed
Prompting me to change my tune
Light poured in like morning song 
That’s what reminded me what I knew all along:

The thing in the mirror’s not the problem, you see
That thing was the answer 
The answer was me

What I thought was ‘lost’
Was learning the way
Amazing things happen 
When you’re stuck in a maze
